چکیده

In-home entertainment systems are becoming popular because they allow a variety of consumer electronic (CE) devices to be connected, using a wireless network, to form a system capable of handling multimedia content. Using such a system provide the end-users the possibility of transparently streaming multimedia content between devices of varying capabilities. This is possible because the system adapts the multimedia content to match the capabilities of the receiving device. What looks simple to the end-user, is actually a very complex system that manages all existing multimedia streams and resources. It must manage all the varying resource demands, on all the constrained devices, in such a way that the resulting quality (video or audio playback) is acceptable to all the end-users of the system. In this thesis we investigate two different, but still related, issues within the in-home entertainment network. First, we look at how we can adapt to the the capabilities of the nodes, which contains processors of varying capabilities and also operating systems which also provide different capabilities. Secondly, we have to adapt to the varying capabilities of the wireless network when it is used for video streaming in the presence of other network traffic. For nodes, we present two scheduling methods that are extensions to the off-line scheduling paradigm. The first method aims at improving the handling of soft aperiodic tasks in an off-line scheduled system, which are normally handled in the background resulting in long response times. The method creates

A THEORETICALLY CORRECT RESOURCE USAGE VISUALIZATION FOR THE RESOURCE-CONSTRAINED PROJECT SCHEDULING PROBLEM

The cumulative resource constraints of the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) do not treat the resource demands as geometric rectangles, that is, activities are not necessarily assigned to the same resource units over their processing times. In spite of this fact, most papers on resource-constrained project scheduling mainly in the motivation phase use a strip packing of re...

A Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Optimization of Time-Cost Trade-off Problems in Project Scheduling Using a Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for optimization of a multi-mode resource constrained time cost trade off (MRCTCT) problem. The proposed GA, each activity has several operational modes and each mode identifies a possible executive time and cost of the activity. Beyond earlier studies on time-cost trade-off problem, in MRCTCT problem, resource requirements of each execution mo...

A multi-objective resource-constrained project scheduling problem with time lags and fuzzy activity durations

The resource-constrained project scheduling problem is to find a schedule that minimizes the project duration subject to precedence relations and resource constraints. To further account for economic aspects of the project, one may add an objective of cash nature to the problem. In addition, dynamic nature and variations in real world are known to introduce uncertainties into data. Therefore, t...

Constrained consumable resource allocation in alternative stochastic networks via multi-objective decision making

Many real projects complete through the realization of one and only one path of various possible network paths. Here, these networks are called alternative stochastic networks (ASNs). It is supposed that the nodes of considered network are probabilistic with exclusive-or receiver and exclusive-or emitter. First, an analytical approach is proposed to simplify the structure of t...

A Multi-objective optimization model for project scheduling with time-varying resource requirements and capacities

Proper and realistic scheduling is an important factor of success for every project. In reality, project scheduling often involves several objectives that must be realized simultaneously, and faces numerous uncertainties that may undermine the integrity of the devised schedule. Thus, the manner of dealing with such uncertainties is of particular importance for effective planning. A realistic sc...
